The Value Sandwich

The secret ingredient you're not using

BRAND OS

How’s it going my friend,

Today I’m serving you A Value Sandwich.

It is highly likely that you have great thoughts and ideas.

BUT.. you probably don’t know how to communicate it in a way that really makes it stick with people.

So when you tell a story, share an experience or an educational message it either doesn’t resonate like you want it or people don’t take away what you want from it.

That’s where I come in..

..with my sandwich.

And I brought you one too.

Why this works:

You’ve heard the saying: “people buy with emotion and justify with logic”

Truth is that applies to everything.

It’s basic human psychology and behavior— in other words it’s human nature.

Humans are emotional creatures.

Whether we know it or not, we tend to trust our feelings, established worldview, values systems, and social cues more than facts or data.

That’s why if you ask a neuroscientist—or a political scientist—and they’ll tell you that the most powerful messages connect policy, facts, and findings to:

— Our values and feelings.

That means you have to show and explain WHY, WHAT you’re saying matters to WHO you’re saying it to.

And how do you do that?

By appealing to their:

  • Emotions

  • Mindset

  • Values

  • Beliefs

And then you justify your opinion with your own:

  • Ideas

  • Facts

  • Statistics

  • Experience

Finally, to wrap it all up you add one more emotional message or line to appeal to their emotions and human nature.

My most successful writing follows this rule.

Even in this very newsletter,

I started out by saying:

It is highly likely that you have great thoughts and ideas.

BUT.. you probably don’t know how to communicate it in a way that really makes it stick with people.

Me a few minutes ago

I’m appealing to your emotion and the belief that you have great thoughts and ideas— you do.

But I’m also triggering a response in saying you don’t know how to communicate it.

The reason AI will not be replacing the best human writers and creators is because it cannot understand human nature.

It cannot think and feel like you.

So if you want to be more effective, be more human.

Understand your own feelings and look deeper into your own motivations, fears and desires— and you’ll know exactly what to say to other people.

This is effective, not only in your content but in any area of life.

Your feelings hold a lot of value.

Embrace them.
